"We are perpetually heartbroken that food insecurity exists in our communities, in this country, in the world," says Melissa Rackliff TallGrass Spa Director. "There is plenty for everyone and we are going to do our little part so we can keep even one child, one person from being hungry." Experiencing increased demand due to the effects of the pandemic, the Pantry needs help to provide community members with pre-packed boxes of produce, whole grains, meat, dairy, and personal care products, including infant items like formula and diapers. "The need is enormous right now," says Shellie McKeown, Community Health Coordinator at the Pantry. "We are feeding an average of 243 families a week and we are seeing a lot more homeless people." Because so many of the recipients are living out of backpacks, the Pantry needs lightweight, ready-to-eat, easily carried items such as tuna packets, single serve veggie packs, fruit pouches, and pop-top cans of hearty stews with protein. A complete list of preferred items can be found on Mountain Resource Center's food pantry website page. Food and personal care items may be delivered to TallGrass at 997 Upper Bear Creek Road in Evergreen, during normal business hours as listed at TallGrassSpa.com and, as a thank you from TallGrass, donors will receive an Eminence Rosehip and Lemon Grass SPF lip balm, be entered into a gift basket drawing, and have a photo op with project mascot Ava the Spavocado. With a mission to "awe and inspire" and a list of core values that specifies giving back to the world, Tall Grass is committed to supporting organizations in its surrounding communities. "Traditionally, we host a children's holiday party for Mountain Resource Center," says TallGrass owner Gail Sharp. "It was cancelled last year due to the pandemic, but we replaced it by adopting families. And now, with the food drive, our continuing support is filling another crucial need."
