For Immediate Release Contact: Denise Robert TallGrass Spa and Salon supports homeless veterans Collects essential items to fill string backpacks An estimated 9% of the total homeless population in the United States are veterans. Locally, TallGrass Spa and Salon in Evergreen, Colorado, works to make a difference in their lives through its String Backpack Project unofficially dubbed "soldier bags." Timed each year to coincide with Veterans Day, TallGrass provides string backpacks filled with much-needed personal care items for veterans in metro Denver and along the Front Range. The campaign, now in its third year, collects travel-sized donations of wet wipes, hand sanitizer, bars of soap, combs, razors, tubes of shave cream, bottled water, hand and foot warmers, small or medium size men's underwear, lip balm, stick deodorant, and toothpaste and brush packs for distribution to Colorado's homeless vets. "A handwritten card or note to let them know they are not forgotten is perhaps the most important item of all," says TallGrass owner Gail Sharp, who encourages donors to include notes of appreciation, thanking vets for their service. The personal messages along with donated items may be dropped off at TallGrass Spa at 997 Upper Bear Creek Road or Wild Game Entertainment at 1204 Bergen Parkway, both located in Evergreen. Donations are being accepted now through November 10. The soldier bags will be assembled by TallGrass staff and volunteers the following day. Last year, A generous community response helped amass enough items to fill more than 500 soldier bags which were then distributed throughout the year to homeless vets by caseworkers at Volunteers of America's Bill Daniels Veteran Service Center in Denver.
