For Immediate Release Contact: Denise Robert TallGrass Spa and Salon supports homeless veterans Collects essential items in string backpacks Wet wipes, hand sanitizer, bars of soap, face masks, combs, razors, and small tubes of shave cream. These items and more are being collected by TallGrass Spa and Salon in Evergreen, Colorado, for distribution to homeless vets, as the spa launches its 2nd Annual Soldier Bags Project. Now through Veterans Day, November 11, the campaign aims to collect much-needed items and assemble them into string backpacks for veterans experiencing homelessness in the metro Denver area and along the Front Range. Supplies vets can use include bottled water, hand and foot warmers, small or medium size men's underwear, lip balm, stick deodorant, and toothpaste and brush packs. (Socks are not needed.) "Last year, we set a goal of 100 backpacks," says Gail Sharp, TallGrass owner. "Then, we four-times'd it!" A generous community response helped amass enough items to fill more than 400 backpacks which were then distributed to homeless vets by caseworkers at Volunteers of America's Bill Daniels Veteran Service Center in Denver. Ms. Sharp encourages donors to include notes of appreciation to thank vets for their service. "A handwritten card or note to let them know they are not forgotten is perhaps the most important item of all," she says. The messages along with the donated items may be dropped off at TallGrass Spa at 997 Upper Bear Creek Road or Wild Game Entertainment at 1204 Bergen Parkway, both are located in Evergreen. Donations are being accepted now through November 10, and backpacks will be assembled by TallGrass staff and volunteers the following day.
