For Immediate Release Contact: Denise Robert TallGrass Sends Soldier Care Packages The Soldier Box Project is a care package program coordinated by the staff of TallGrass Aveda Spa and Salon in Evergreen, Colorado, in an effort to send support to troops in Afghanistan. "The soldier boxes bring so much joy — and a few tears, too — to senders and recipients alike that we have made it an ongoing program," says Deb Dickinson, nail technician at TallGrass and organizer of the project. After the first shipment, last summer, thank you letters from soldiers let the staff know how much the contents and the connections were appreciated. "When we read the letters, we were all in tears," says Deb, "and we just knew we needed to continue the project." Flat rate postal boxes are filled with donations of toiletries, disinfectant wipes, feminine products, bug repellant, sun screen, playing cards, paperback books and any other useful or fun non-food items that can fit inside. The next shipment is scheduled for mid-August and everyone is invited to contribute items or donate cash to help cover shipping costs. Toiletries can be full size or travel size, like the ones found in hotel rooms. At TallGrass, purchases of Aveda travel size items for donation to the Soldier Box Project are discounted at the spa's cost. Cooling neck wraps, the type that can be filled with water and chilled, are popular with soldiers serving in the Middle East along with hair bands, headbands and barrettes.
