For Immediate Release Contact: Denise Robert, (O) 303-368-5208 / (C) 303-570-7577 Media Advisory / Photo Op - Friday, Nov 15 TallGrass organizes Soldier Box Packing Day Who: What: When: Where: Why: Service clubs and residents of assisted living facilities, school students, a mentorship program, and crafters who sew and knit have been collecting personal care items, small games, baseball caps, and other holiday gifts for inclusion in the Soldier Box care packages being readied for shipment to troops in the Middle East in time for the holidays. Also collected were more than 500 holiday cards and letters from elementary school students including Deer Creek Elementary School in Bailey and handmade drawstring bags loaded with personal hygiene items from the women of the Rotary Club of Evergreen. Mountain Community Pathways’ Aktion Club, an Evergreen service group of developmentally disabled adults sponsored by the Blue Spruce Kiwanis Club, raised money to shop for items to pack into Soldier Boxes. The mentees and mentors at Clear Creek Rock House in Idaho Springs, a program designed to empower kids in grades 6 to 12, collected donations of gifts and wrote letters to soldiers. These gifts – and more donations from foothills communities – will be packed into flat rate postal boxes and delivered to the post office for shipment to the Middle East. The goal for Friday’s shipment is to beat last year’s total of 258 boxes packed and shipped. About the TallGrass Soldier Box Project: #### |
