Message from Gail Ridings, TallGrass Owner
Some of you might remember a similar photo with my column about this time last year. It's an odd coincidence that my husband, Chuck, was scheduled again this Halloween for another elective surgery. This time, he had both knees scoped and, of course, we had to carry on our recovery room costume tradition. We were the only goofy people dressed up. But, why not? Life can be very serious, very scary and sometimes very difficult. If you have a fairly routine procedure (like joint repair) and need
just a bit of healing, that's worth celebrating. And come to think of it, there are many reasons to celebrate! The media often focuses on so many negative, depressing things that we might be tempted to overlook opportunities to celebrate. Certainly, we think of celebrating holidays, but how about smaller victories, happy moments, even waking up in the morning? How about celebrating a great phone call, an "all good" mammogram, a safe and uneventful drive to work, or any of the thousands of other life happenings that we take for granted?
My husband had a routine procedure done today! Wahoo! I'm celebrating!

Nicole Ridpath Spa Babe
Selected to receive the Spa Babe Award, Nicole Ridpath exemplifies the TallGrass mission to awe and inspire. With her incredible esthetician skills, terrific customer service, industrious work habits and volunteer spirit, she astonishes us!
Nicole joined the TallGrass team after training at the Aveda Institute. Skincare issues of her own prompted her to learn about healing methods. "Treating acne is near and dear to my heart," she says. Working with guests of every age, she uses the natural approach to treat skincare issues that are affected by hormones, diet and lifestyle. "I really appreciate the natural aspect of the products we use at TallGrass. It's huge," she says.
Volunteering to work at our recent hair and fashion show gave Nicole a chance to show off her talent for makeup design. "It was a lot of fun," she says. "My creative side came out and it was really cool." Everyone agrees that she did an amazing job.

Spreading Holiday Cheer
At our annual Holiday Shopping Spree on Thursday, Nov 13, we're offering savings of 15% on all Aveda products (including holiday gift sets, beautifully wrapped with handcrafted paper from Nepal), the Eminence Organic Skincare collection and all the fashions in our TallGrass Boutique. This is your once-a-year opportunity to take advantage of product discounts and save on irresistible treasures in our Boutique. We'll welcome you, from 8:30 a.m.to 8:30 p.m., with refreshments,
make-up applications, chair massages and all the things you've come to enjoy every holiday season at TallGrass. We make your holiday shopping fun. Preparations for two of our favorite holiday philanthropy projects coincide on the afternoon of Monday, Dec. 1, when TallGrass employees and friends fill care packages and stuff stockings. Everyone is welcome to join the party and/or contribute items. *
- Our next shipment of Solider Boxes to Afghanistan is scheduled for mid-December. We are happily accepting your donations of travel or full sized toiletries, greeting cards, playing cards, paperback books, puzzles and "fun" reminders of home to include in the boxes. As always, you can purchase Aveda travel size products at our cost and contribute them to the shipment and we welcome cash contributions, too, to help cover shipping costs. The soldiers who receive our packages
tell us that hand written notes are the best gifts of all. So, we invite you to use the holiday cards in our Great Room to write your personal messages to our troops.
- Every year, we contribute 200 toy-filled stockings and provide home baked goodies for the Mountain Resource Center's Children's Holiday Party that takes place in December. It's a highlight of our year to act as the elves assisting Santa and Mrs. Claus giving stockings to children of families who are served by MRC health and human services programs.
