January 2025
Thankfully, my gratitude habit is firmly established. Working every morning, year after year, to refocus my attitude has helped enormously.
Seeing my life through a gratitude filter makes it so much easier and more peaceful. When I was alone throughout Christmas, there was no Christmas morning breakfast with grandchildren opening presents and no family joy, but there was also no drama, no complications to deal with, no mess, no stress. Instead, I could appreciate a horseback ride on Christmas Day with a good friend. My habit of reframing life with gratitude happens so quickly now that I hardly need to think about it. If only I
could use the same focus on my other habits that aren't helpful, like impatience, rigidity, and judging others. Argh! I still have much to work on!
In my meditation book I read: "As this year draws to an end, I prepare for the new year by letting go of what has been and releasing expectation about what will be." Go with the flow. That's another key to peace. It's impossible to have no expectations, but the looser mine are, the better my life goes. That and being happy with life's silly, tiny moments, like my cow playing with one of the horses at my ranch. Watching that unusual interaction between species lightens my day and, therefore,
my life.
I hope you, too, can find gratitude in the events that come in 2025 and let go of the happenings that might not be very joyful. One day at a time, life can unfold beautifully, if we choose to see it that way! Happy New Year!
