Earlier this month, with the community's help, TallGrass packed 500 string backpacks for homeless veterans across Colorado. Many of you joined us, along with people from other service organizations, and almost a dozen veterans. Because we had such amazing helpers and were pretty organized, we finished the sorting in 30 minutes and the packing in an hour. When I left Wild Game where we worked – many thanks to them! – I was soaring with the best kind of high. I've learned over the
years that giving back, serving, and helping others creates the best feelings of any activity I undertake. I'm a Rotary member and our motto is "Service above Self" which is how I'd like to live. I'm not quite there yet, but I'm trying!
We have another fun way to raise money and awareness for an important non-profit in our community – Evergreen Animal Protective League. Since we were unable to have our fundraising dog wash this summer due to a water heater issue, we are replacing that event with one we did during COVID times. You'll remember the pet portrait promotion! Here's how it works: If you'll email us a photo of your beloved pet – dog, cat, horse, chicken, lizard, whatever – Evergreen High School art
students or TallGrass employees will create artwork from your picture. It may be watercolor, or pencil, or collage. Who knows? None of us are professionals, but based on what happened last time, the art was fabulously fun and everyone loved the results. It's only $20 per pet portrait (details below) and a wonderful, unique holiday gift for someone who loves their furry friend. (That's everyone who has a pet, right?)
As we end this year, my heart is full of gratitude for good things that happened over these past months, but also for the tougher times. In those tough days, I focus on the positives and try to learn from the harder stuff. It's not always easy but usually possible if I put in the effort. One of the top things on my gratitude list is the people in my life. And, that includes YOU! I'm so thankful for your friendship, your support, your loyalty, your commitment to us and each other.
I send wishes of joy and health to you for the holidays and into next year. You are the reason TallGrass exists and we love you!
