I have no children. But I wonder. Do I qualify as a "mother" to my 2 dogs, 3 cats, 6 goats, and 3 horses?
While I certainly do not totally understand the love that a mother has for her children, I can say emphatically that I love my animals so much and they are critically important in my life. Like other mothers, I often put their needs before my own and their happiness brings me joy as their struggles create misery for me, too.
Recently, two of my dear friends lost their animal babies – one dog was 15 and it was time for her to go, and the other dog, just 6, died suddenly. Both friends are beyond heartbroken as these two creatures were by their sides nearly 24/7 and gave their moms unconditional love and devotion. Oh, so hard! Another friend, after recently losing her elderly dog, has just gone to my neighbor's house to look at adopting an adorable puppy.
The cycle of life. The bad news about our fur babies is that they don't live as long as we do. The good news is that there are so many more who need homes, like the dog from EAPL that we feature below.
Speaking of an animal mom, my friend Jackie Bell (pictured with me here), the President of EAPL for over 40 years – yes, PRESIDENT for 40 years – who does that??? – is receiving an Evergreen Area Chamber of Commerce Hall of Fame award tomorrow. She has no children, and yet has helped to find homes for over 20,000 animals in addition to usually caring for 5-10 in her own home. I think that qualifies as a MOM! The love, devotion, and selfless caretaking are definitely
there.
So, whether you mother little human boys or girls, or possibly animal babies, or plant babies, or your friends or family who act like babies 😊, please accept my appreciation and best wishes for a wonderful, joyous Mother's Day.
P.S. We have the perfect gift for every mother – click here to get a TallGrass gift certificate. We will be honored to give her the love and care that she's given you!
