August 2023
Oh summer, I love you! Activity is everywhere.
So many things to do and places to go – a jazz festival church service and a Kooza Cirque de Soleil one weekend and a hike to two mountain lakes the next. On recent Saturdays, the Wild Aware benefit was a family fun day at my little ranch and our TallGrass fundraising dog wash was as soapy and splashy as ever!
But, when the activity subsides, being outside in my neighborhood for a quiet walk or just sitting on a rock is probably my favorite place to be. Stepping away from the hubbub fills my tank like nothing else. You can see why in the picture above – a cherished place to hang out on my daily loop with dogs and goats.
We have a lot of road construction on my side of town and our local social media network is full of complaints, which is understandable since it's no fun to sit in stopped traffic every day. However, I was struck by a couple of people who contributed positive comments on the issue. One wrote that sitting in traffic was her time to listen quietly to a lovely song on the radio or just meditate. Another person said she stopped at McDonald's and picked up $100 worth of $5 gift cards. She hands
them out to the flaggers managing traffic for hours out in the hot sun. Now THAT is an "awe and inspire" moment, which puts me in mind of our TallGrass mission statement and also helps me remember that we can choose how we look at life's situations – whiny and negative or helpful and sunny. I'll take sunny every time!
One of my favorite summer activities is sitting in a cool, dark movie theater watching a Barbie or Mission Impossible blockbuster or a thoughtful, deeper-themed flick like Oppenheimer or Sound of Freedom. The latter is the true story of the rescue of a child trafficking victim, so hard to think about, but so important to be aware of this horrific crime. TallGrass annually participates in the Barefoot Mile walk event benefitting JOY International, a Conifer based non-profit committed to saving children from this nightmare. This year's event is on August 26 and we would really appreciate your donation to our team's goal of $1,500 to help with JOY's mission. And, we'd love to have you walk with us on the TallGrass Team Twinkle Toes!
I hope you are enjoying the beauty and fun of summertime. Our patio with bubbling water feature, hummingbirds, and shade trees beckons you. Dee-lightful after your spa or salon services!
A reminder for your next visit: The Evergreen Lake North Trail Project is underway and continues through the end of August. Please refer to these detour instructions and allow extra time to get to the spa.
