February 2023
As I write this, it is minus 14 degrees at my little "ranchette."
Obviously, a miserable time to be outside. Yet, due to a hoar frost (or is it rime ice?), the trees are magically flocked with icy white. Just the tiniest ray of sun makes them sparkle and shine in stunning beauty. Both the chill and the beauty are breathtaking.
In the middle of winter, I'm reminded to try very hard to avoid relentless whining about the cold, the dark, the challenges that this time of year brings. Nature (the universe, God, or whatever you believe) gives us gifts like this consistently, like the beauty of a favorite song that I sometimes replay over and over and over (thank goodness I live alone!), or a child's giggle, or watching my dogs run down my driveway with joy and appreciation for our little walk in the neighborhood. All
these things can kick me forward out of the doldrums if I choose to make the decision to allow it. I can relate to the fact that sometimes it takes real EFFORT to switch to a positive outlook, but it is possible.
I hope you'll take some time in this chilly month to look for the breathtaking moments – we can find them if we look – especially during this month of LOVE!
