January 2023
The holiday season is mostly over now, with its lovely moments and stressful ones, too. (Why did I decide to make a big formal Christmas dinner when I don’t really enjoy cooking?)
As I get older – and supposedly wiser – I can think I could have done it better, or I didn't work hard enough, or I'm lazy. Thankfully those I'm-not-good-enough thoughts don't occur with the same frequency and ferocity as they did when I was younger. In those days, my self-criticism often included awful things about being too fat or unattractive – Ugh! – especially when someone in my life seemed consistently extraordinary and perfect. Comparisons are downright
evil!
Now, when I go down that rabbit hole, I remember to think of three things I can do well. They may not be earth shattering, but they force me back to a positive mindset. And that's important when embarking on a new year full of promise – and sometimes lofty expectations. Keeping expectations of myself and others in a reasonable zone is one of the keys to serenity. Along with gratitude. I have no idea why I received such an incredible life, but I do thank the universe for my gifts every
day.
Here’s to a lovely, healthy, peaceful, and joyous 2023! I’m grateful for you!
