Message from Gail Sharp, TallGrass Owner
I realize that I am a broken record regarding gratitude. This important emotion is at the top of my list for getting and remaining happy.
Many, many years ago when I would call my AA sponsor to complain or to tell her what was wrong in my life, she would listen patiently. She'd ask if I was through and when I finally said yes, she'd say "Okay. Please hang up and write a list of 10 things you are grateful for right now. Call me back and read that list to me." Almost always, that turned around my perspective. And now 30 years later, focusing on gratitude comes so naturally that, these days, my gratitude knows no bounds.
Granted, I have an amazingly comfortable life with almost no problems. But, we all can get a tiny bit whiny at times. Like now, I'm missing my mom during this mother-focused time of year. Fortunately, I can quickly switch my thought to how grateful I am to have had such a wonderful mother. The gifts she gave me in thousands of ways are still with me every day.
For those of you who still have your mother with you – or your stepmom, grandmother, or a friend who takes care of you like a mother – I encourage you to shower them with even more love and attention than normal. Mothers cannot be thanked enough! Our gratitude runneth over!
