Message from Gail Sharp
After five months of recovery from hip replacement surgery, I’ve started to limp again. It’s my own fault. Though I’ve done my strengthening and stretching exercises regularly and walked every single day without fail, what happened? I ignored my body’s signals to slow down. I stopped
PT before I should have, saying to myself: “I’m fine. I’ll just work out these little issues on my own.” And, I minimized the pain I was feeling, thinking how lucky I was not to have bigger issues. Have you ever done the same? Powered through a challenge, ignoring warning signs and discounting your pain – physical or emotional? Many of us push ourselves to stay strong, keep moving, focus on the positives, all good intentions within reason and balance. My limp is a reminder to me (once again) to listen to my body. It deserves TLC and, for the next month, I’m going to walk less, use my cane more, and rest my hip.
I hope you’re listening to what your body is telling you. Maybe a little rest and a spa treatment are in order for you, too?
